Application Procedure
Applications are invited, from the 1st February 2010, for all daytime courses commencing in September, 2010.
Application Process
Step 1
The application form should be completed and returned to the Admissions Officer, Killester College of Further Education, Collins Avenue, Dublin 5. All applications will be acknowledged by post.
Application may also be made on-line by logging on to the College’s web site at www.killestercollege.ie and submitting the application over the Internet. Submission of the application will be acknowledged immediately. The College’s website is compliant with the WAI guidelines as adopted by the National Disability Authority.
Step 2
Applicants will be invited for interview at an enrolment session in the College. The purpose fo this interview is to determine the applicant's capacity to participate on the course for which they have applied using the principles of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Applicants for courses in the School of Social Studies should note that because fo the nature of the work placement, all applicants on these programmes will need to successfully pass Garda/HSE clearance.
Step 3
Courses are offered on courses subject to meeting the following requirements:
- Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied or any appropriate Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC).
(Some courses may have specific subject requirements in the above. Please see individual course webpages for details)
- In the case of mature students, i.e. 21 years and over, there are not formal entry requirements.
- Interview or RPL Assessment (pre-course assessessment for some courses)
A letter of offer will be posted to successful candidates within 2 weeks of the interview. Upon receipt of a letter of offer, a successful applicant may secure the place by paying a deposit of €40. In accordance with Department of Education and Science Regulations, this deposit is non-refundable.
Note: The College can accept payment for classes in the form of cheque, postal order, laser card and credit card. No cash can be accepted.
Step 4
All those who have secured a place in the College will be invited to complete course enrolment on the first day of the 2010/2011 academic year. This involves payment of the balance of the course costs and the provision of all necessary documentation such as PPS number, a copy of Leaving Certificate or other examination results or equivalent and a passport size photograph.
Step 5
Courses begin in mid-September 2010. Participants who do not attend the first day of the course may forfeit their place unless written notice is received by the College authorities beforehand.
Step 6
Where an applicant is successful at interview but the course is full, his/her name will be placed on a waiting list. Places which become available will be offered to those on the waiting list in order. Further interviews will be held after the commencement of the 2010/2011 academic year depending on availability of places. Late applications are accepted up to the end of September 2010.
Note:
- Course enrolment is considered complete only when:
- Fees or charges are paid in full by, or on behalf of, the student.
- All information and supporting documentation requested by the College has been submitted.
- The student agrees to abide by the General Rules and Regulations of the CDVEC and the Student Code of Behaviour of Killester College.
- In the case of full-time courses, students will not be enrolled after the 30th September 2010, except in a case, which is deemed by the college to be an exceptinal circumstance.
- The College will not be responsible for any inability to complete the enrolment process by the above closing date, if all necessary information and supporting documentation have not been provided.
- The provision of false or inaccurate information by an applicant may render his/her application null and void.
Appeals Procedure
In the event of a dispute in relation to enrolment an applicant is entitled to appeal this decision to the Killester College Advisory Sub-Committee. The appeal application form and a copy of the full procedure are available from the Principal on request.
