This is a one-year full time Classroom Assistant/Special Needs Assistant course which aims to equip students with the knowledge skills and understanding necessary to work in a classroom environment.

Certification

  • FETAC (Further Education & Training Awards Council) Level 5 Certificate in Community & Health Services (DCHSX)
  • Certification in Basic First Aid
  • Sign Language – Certification by the Irish Sign Language Association
  • Manual and Person Handling Certification by the Irish Wheelchair Association

 

Career Opportunities

Primary, Secondary Schools and Special Schools employ Special Needs Assistants to work in a variety of educational settings.

 

Further Studies

Students may progress to participating Higher Education Institutions (HEI's) through the FETAC Higher Education Links Scheme.
