Cultural and Heritage Studies Programme
The Cultural and Heritage programme offers students a wonderful blend of interesting subjects along with an excellent range of organised cultural trips and a work experience placement.
The academic year commences in mid-September. There is a 1-week mid-term break in late October. Work Experience takes place over a two-week period in November. This allows students to work in the field of Culture and Heritage and see first hand how their skills might be used.
A ‘cultural event’ is organised for most weeks. The students enjoy guided tours of some of the the following venues:
- National Museum, Archaeology
- National Museum, Decorative Arts
- Georgian House Museum (No. 29)
- Trinity College and the Book of Kells
- Hugh Lane Gallery
- St Anne’s Park
- Farmleigh House
- Dáil Eireann
- Dublin Castle
- National Gallery, Merrion Square
- Mansion House
- Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre
- Newgrange
Students work towards a FETAC Award in Cultural and Heritage Studies (ECHSX). This is achieved through the successful completion of eight modules . Modules are assessed through the completion of projects, assignments, skills demonstrations and exams (eg. Archaeology: 2 assignments (25% each) and an exam (50%). These are spread throughout the academic year. Formal classes/lectures usually finish around 1st May. Exams take place in early May. Many students are keen to avail of the ‘Higher Links Scheme’ which enables successful FETAC graduates to progress onto Higher Education.
